InterDrone After-Hours Sessions Added to
Largest Commercial UAV Show

Special events for DJI users, Dronecode developers and Drone Service Businesses highlighted

MELVILLE, N.Y., August 15, 2016 — BZ Media LLC today announced the addition of four special sessions happening “after hours” at InterDrone, The International Drone Conference & Exposition running September 7-9 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. The InterDrone After-Hours sessions run concurrently from 7:30-9:00 on Wednesday September 7 following the InterDrone Film Festival and they are open to full conference All-Access attendees. The four sessions are:

DJI Drones-of-a-Feather – A panel and interactive question and answer session with DJI Director of Education Romeo Durscher and other members of the DJI team for flyers of Phantoms, Inspires, S-900’s and S-1000’s and the new Matrice 600 drones.

Drone Talk – This session, led by Patrick Sherman (“Lucidity”) and Brian Zvaigzne (“Techinstein”) is loosely based on the popular NPR show Car Talk. Lucidity and Techinstein have flown – and crashed – nearly every type of drone imaginable and they answer any and all sorts of questions about flying, selecting, and maintaining your drone of choice.

Dronecode Drones-of-a-Feather – Dronecode is the open source, collaborative project governed by The Linux Foundation that encompasses many UAV projects and repositories including Ardupilot, PX4, Pixhawk, MAVLink, UAVCAN, DroneKit and more. Technical Community Manager Craig Elder along with Dronecode Board Member Tom Pittinger will be answering questions about the projects and how members of the community can get involved.

Building and Growing Your Drone Service Business – The Drone Boss, Damon Darnall, is the host of this session for entrepreneurs and businesspeople starting or operating a drone service business. Much of the commercial drone work will be done by these smaller specialized companies  and they will get a chance to trade tips and tricks in this session.

“These After-Hours events round out a jam-packed three-day immersion in building, flying and buying commercial drones. With more than 120 sessions and 160 exhibitors we want to insure that no one leaves without being thoroughly satisfied with what they have learned at this event. Content, content, and more content has always been a hallmark of BZ Media events,” said Ted Bahr, InterDrone Chairman.

Exhibitors and sponsors include a cross section of the entire commercial drone industry including AeroVironment, DJI, Precision Hawk, Yuneec, Intel, SenseFly, Insitu, DroneDeploy, Bentley Systems, NovaTel, 3D Robotics, eHang, Amazon, Autel, AUVSI, Hubsan, C-Astral, Brother, Walkera, SlantRange, Kodak, Flir, Parrot, AEGis Technologies, Sentera, and pavilions from Iowa, North Dakota and Nevada.

Using a customizable H.264 hardware encoder is essential to delivering the high compression ratio and guaranteed speed needed for mission critical manned and unmanned video streaming applications.
“Challenges in Relaying Video Back to Mission Control”
The change in emphasis to a more avionics approach to the military theatre has introduced a new set of challenges in terms of technological feasibility. It is often requested to have an active video feed sent large distances back to ground, with low latency and in high definition. These criteria must be met at all times. The video feed is typically used for monitoring and/or recording of the mission, so if the video feed arrives too late or in poor quality, the resulting images are of no use to control staff and the mission can be compromised. The real challenge is dealing with the low bandwidth available to stream video. All transmissions must be sent wirelessly and ground control may be a long distance away, especially when it involves remote controlled Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or intelligence gathering missions (Figure 1). Wireless transmission is usually performed in an atypical method with limited bandwidth, like a cellular relay or satellite transmission. This often puts a very strict limitation on the data transfer rate of the video ...
